Leeds City Council is excited to announce that Leeds Kirkgate Market will host a live screening of The Charlatans homecoming gig, which is taking place in lead singer Tim Burgess’ hometown of Northwich.
In a first for Leeds Kirkgate Market, the giant screen in the event space will broadcast the live show at the same time as locations in Japan, Buenos Aires and Barcelona on Friday 18 May 2018.
700 tickets will be available for the event at £5 each, attendees will be automatically entered in to a prize draw to win some amazing prizes including the Melting Pot neon sign from the best of album of the same name and this will be signed by the band. There will also be a pair of VIP tickets for Kendal Calling Music festival. Attendees at Leeds will each receive a Charlatans ‘Live All Over The World’ badge.
As well as the live screening special guest DJ Howling Wolf, Max Lees of the band Twisted Wheel will be playing all the indie classics.
Food and bars will be trading on the night, all your favourites including Manjit’s Kitchen, Fat Annie’s, Banh and Mee, Jenny’s Jerk Chicken, Yorkshire Wrap Co, Mr Mackerel, Istanbul Bakery, Teapot Tea and Coffee, Frizza, BeetleJuice and North Brewing Co.
Councillor Jonathan Pryor, lead member for markets, said:
“This is a bit of a coup for Kirkgate so we are really excited to have been chosen to show this massive gig, live, at the same time as countries across the world.
“This will be the first time the event space has been used in this way since we completed the refurbishment so we are really keen to demonstrate what an amazing space it is for events like this. I’m sure the atmosphere will be electric and the audience will also be able to try out the fantastic range of food and drink which is on offer at Kirkgate.”
The Charlatans (known in the United States as The Charlatans UK) are an English indie rock band. The band’s line-up comprises lead vocalist Tim Burgess, guitarist Mark Collins, bassist Martin Blunt and keyboardist Tony Rogers.
In the UK, all of the band’s thirteen studio albums have charted in the Top 40 of the UK Albums Chart, three of them being number ones. They have also achieved seventeen Top 30 singles and four Top 10 entries in the UK Singles Chart, including the hits “The Only One I Know” and “One to Another”.
