Spire Leeds Hospital Advances Joint Replacement with New Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Spire Leeds Hospital is excited to announce its position as the second facility in the UK and the first in Yorkshire to provide VELYS™ robotic-assisted surgery.

This cutting-edge technology combines the expert precision of skilled consultants with the latest in robotic innovation. Recognizing that each knee and patient’s needs are unique, the VELYS™ system customizes knee replacements by utilizing patient-specific anatomical data. The system aids surgeons by using a robotic arm that ensures only the necessary bone tissue is removed. During surgery, VELYS™ provides real-time feedback to the surgeon, enhancing the precision and accuracy of implant placement.

The heightened precision and accuracy offered by the VELYS™ robotic-assisted surgery at Spire Leeds Hospital could lead to better patient outcomes, enhanced mobility, and quicker recoveries. Currently, three consultant surgeons at the hospital are trained to utilize this advanced technology. Spire Leeds remains dedicated to promoting clinical excellence by integrating innovative technologies and fostering collaborative partnerships, further cementing its reputation as a frontrunner in orthopaedic surgery.

Mr Veysi, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Spire Leeds Hospital who performed the first case this week said:

“VELYS™ is the latest and most advanced robotic-assisted technique for knee replacements. It will allow improved accuracy in assessing each patient’s knee, correcting the damage done by arthritis and placing the implants in the ideal place for that individual’s knee.”

Ceri Morgan, Hospital Director at Spire Leeds Hospital said:

“We’re incredibly proud to be the first hospital in Yorkshire to offer this pioneering technology to our patients. Here at Spire Leeds Hospital, we’re dedicated to developing excellent clinical environments – The investment in VELYS™ is a significant step forward in delivering the highest quality patient care.”
