Forward Leeds Launches Innovative Campaign For Alcohol Awareness week

During Alcohol Awareness Week, Forward Leeds, the city’s dedicated alcohol and drug support service, is rolling out an innovative campaign designed to assist Leeds residents looking to manage their alcohol consumption.

Forward Leeds stands as a beacon of hope and support for individuals grappling with alcohol and drug issues in the Leeds area. As the city’s leading alcohol and drug service, it provides comprehensive and tailored support to those in need, focusing on recovery and sustainable change. The service operates across multiple sites in Leeds, making it accessible to a wide demographic. Forward Leeds offers a holistic approach to recovery, incorporating medical interventions, psychological therapies, and support groups, ensuring that each individual’s journey is supported in a way that best suits their needs.

Key to its strategy is the emphasis on education and prevention. Forward Leeds actively engages with the community through workshops, awareness campaigns, and outreach programs. For instance, their involvement in the national Alcohol Awareness Week highlights their commitment to preventive measures. During this week, Forward Leeds not only provides valuable information and resources online but also engages directly with the public through events like their informative sessions at Leeds Market, offering face-to-face advice and encouraging community involvement.

From July 1st to 7th, the campaign will deliver a series of daily social media videos bursting with creative strategies for reducing alcohol intake. These engaging videos will be distributed across all of Forward Leeds’ social media channels, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Forward Leeds Manager James Barrie of their new campaign said:

“There are lots of reasons to cut back on the booze. It can lift your mood, help you lose weight and save you money.”

In addition to its online activities, Forward Leeds will be present at Kirkgate Market on Friday, July 5, providing in-person advice and encouraging individuals to share their personal strategies for reducing alcohol consumption. Excessive drinking can profoundly affect one’s physical and mental health. Forward Leeds’ campaign aims to illuminate practical methods for fostering positive changes, whether through straightforward lifestyle modifications or seeking professional support.

Forward Leeds Manager James Barrie explained:

“We’re not just providing our professional advice; we’re also inviting the people of Leeds to join in with their own ideas too. We want everyone to share their tips, advice and experience using the hashtag #AAW24 and tag @ForwardLeeds in so we can publicise them. By getting as many people in our city involved as possible, we can build a better, stronger and healthier Leeds.

“The risk of harm from drinking alcohol increases the more you drink, just like smoking the more you drink over a lifetime the greater the risks build. The good news is that the less you drink, the lower your risk.”

Beyond individual support, Forward Leeds works closely with local healthcare providers, including GP surgeries and hospitals, to ensure that individuals receive consistent and coordinated care. Their partnerships with other charities and community organizations further bolster their network of support, reflecting a community-centric approach to tackling substance abuse.

The service also focuses on the aftermath of recovery, helping individuals reintegrate into society with skills training, employment support, and ongoing counseling. This comprehensive support system is designed to not only address the immediate challenges of addiction but also to equip individuals with the tools and confidence needed for a successful, long-term recovery.

For those seeking help, Forward Leeds offers a clear pathway out of addiction, with respect, dignity, and sustained support at the heart of their mission. Their continued efforts to innovate and adapt to the needs of their community make them a pivotal entity in the public health landscape of Leeds.

Alcohol Awareness Week is organized annually by Alcohol Change UK, engaging over 5,000 participants nationwide, including public health teams, workplaces, GP surgeries, pharmacies, hospitals, charities, and various community groups.
