‘A Gift from the Heart’ give a Bear Hug this Christmas and make a difference

Help us make a huge difference to children living with congenital heart disease (CHD) this Christmas.

We support hearts for life. We work to ensure that people born with congenital heart disease, a heart condition that develops in the womb, have the best health outcomes and quality of life, throughout their lives. From January to December 2021, CHSF invested £643,363 in 68 different projects and initiatives. This benefited the 17,000 patients, and their families, from across Yorkshire, the Humber and North Lincolnshire cared for by the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit. In 2021, we increased our support to the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit, spending significantly more on beneficiaries than in previous years. We also increased our support for families during the year, providing more financial support and exceptional grants to families in need #BecauseOfYou.

Help us raise £5000 this Christmas to ensure every baby and child who has open heart surgery at Leeds next year receives a precious gift from CHSF – a Katie Bear teddy. On average around 500 babies and children have open heart surgery at Leeds every year, and each one of these heart warriors will receive a precious gift from CHSF – a Katie Bear teddy.

Each teddy costs the charity £10, so we need to raise a total of £5,000 this Christmas to ensure next years young patients are given this special keepsake. Our Give A Bear Hug campaign will put smiles on future faces and offer cuddles for life. Your child, or someone you know, may have a Katie Bear they treasure. Katie has symbolised bravery and resilience for hundreds of young patients with CHD every year since CHSF began in 1988 – and you and your network can help us to reach our target.

We are proud to present Children’s Heart Surgery Fund’s Social Impact Report for 2021 and 2022. This report shows how far CHSF has come and represents a diverse range of projects supported in 2021 and 2022, segmented into four key areas: the Heart, the Mind, the Family and the Future. These areas of focus demonstrate the clear, wrap-around support we offer to the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit, as well as all the children and adults coming through the service.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve been able to approve funding for projects totalling millions of pounds in recent years. Your generosity can really mean the world to children and adults with congenital heart disease across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. Whatever you can give will make a huge difference.

Because of your donation this Christmas, Katie Bear can be there for babies and children next year Give A Bear Hug www.justgiving.com
