Tracy Brabin Secures Re-Election as West Yorkshire Mayor

Tracy Brabin Wins Second Term as West Yorkshire Mayor.

Tracy Brabin, representing Labour, has been successfully re-elected as the Mayor of West Yorkshire. The election results were confirmed after vote counting at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds and other locations throughout West Yorkshire. The polls, which opened on Thursday in Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds, and Wakefield, saw a voter turnout of 32.71%.

Ms. Brabin triumphed over her closest competitor, Arnold Craven of the Conservative Party, by a significant margin, receiving 275,430 votes to Craven’s 82,757. The breakdown of the total votes each candidate received is as follows:

Tracy Brabin (Labour) – 275,430
Bob Buxton (Yorkshire Party) – 47,937
Andrew Cooper (Green) – 66,648
Arnold Craven (Conservative) – 82,757
Stewart Golton (Lib Dem) – 27,501
Jonathan Tilt (Independent) – 46,443

The turnout figure was 32.71 per cent.

In the recent local elections in Leeds, all 33 wards were contested, resulting in the election of one councillor per ward. The city council now consists of the following political makeup across its 99 seats:

Labour [LAB]: 61 seats (unchanged)

Conservative [CON]: 15 seats (down three)

Liberal Democrats [LD]: 6 seats (unchanged)

Green [GR]: 5 seats (up two)

Morley Borough Independents [MBI]: 4 seats (unchanged)

Garforth and Swillington Independents Party [GSIP]: 3 seats (unchanged)

Social Democratic Party [SDP]: 3 seats (up one)

Independents: 2 seats (unchanged)

The turnout figure for the city was 34.24 per cent. Following the election, Labour remain in control of Leeds City Council.
