UK Space Agency announces Space for Everyone tour across the UK this summer

Space for Everyone
The UK Space Agency’s 'Space for Everyone' rocket tour has begun, and the next stop is in Bradford, at the Centenary Square, 6th July - 10th July.

This summer, the UK Space Agency’s ‘Space for Everyone’ tour will travel to 10 locations across the UK, captivating young minds and showcasing the impact of space on improving life here on Earth.

By providing hands-on experiences and activities, the tour will generate excitement and interest in STEAM subjects and encourage ongoing engagement with STEAM education and careers in order to sustain the future space talent pipeline and support the government’s ambition to create a sustainable spaceflight market in the UK.

The tour will unveil the diverse and exciting career paths available in the UK’s fast-growing space industry, highlighting how space works for young people and how they can work for space. Tour highlights:

  • Explore our 72ft replica rocket and learn about the UK’s journey into space.
  • Engage in hands-on experiences that spark imagination and curiosity about space.
  • Interact with trained hosts and industry experts who will shed light on the role of space and the various careers in the UK space sector.

The ‘Space for Everyone’ tour will be supported by a dedicated web page www.spaceperson.co.uk, hosting relevant content and curriculum-based activities to inspire young people about space and the career opportunities available. This will be home to a variety of fun activities about everything from how we can use space to help track marine mammals, to growing space sprouts – as well as provide additional information to help young people further their knowledge about space. British astronaut Tim Peake said:

“The Space for Everyone tour will demonstrate the incredible capacity of space to inspire. It took thousands of people to make my mission to the International Space Station possible and there is a huge variety of careers on offer in space right here in the UK. I hope this activity sparks an interest in the future generations who will take our space sector to new heights.”

Ian Annett, Deputy CEO at the UK Space Agency said:

“Our Space For Everyone tour is an exciting opportunity for our next generation to see first-hand what it is really like to work in the space sector and to learn about careers in this growing and exciting industry.

“The space sector requires various skills – many not traditionally associated with it – and champions inclusivity and the need for innovation. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist, as there are a host of skills and talents needed to bring space closer to our daily lives and improve our understanding of this critical part of the environment for the benefit of the planet and its people.”

Importantly, the web page will enable young people who are unable to visit the tour in person the chance to take part and harness the exciting learning opportunities available. We are also planning a live ‘Space for Everyone’ online broadcast later this summer to offer young people the chance to learn more about space from industry experts, and also take part in a live Q&A.

This is scheduled for September so keep an eye on our social channels for further information. Full range of resources will include:

  1. Satellites and Marine Conservation;
  2. Satellites and Food: (Brussel) Space Sprouts;
  3. Jobs in Space You Didn’t Know Existed;
  4. Match This Space Job to Its Role on Earth;
  5. Who Builds Satellites?

The UK Space Agency will issue a regular drumbeat of social posts throughout the campaign so please keep an eye on @SpaceGovUK for the latest news and updates and help us by amplifying on your channels. If you don’t already, follow and tag the UK Space Agency on social media. This is an out-of-this-world experience showcasing the role of space in improving life on Earth and highlighting the diverse and varied career paths open to young people looking to enter this fast-growing industry.

We recommend visiting as a group and booking in a group tour. This includes a personal tour of the event with one of the dedicated hosts, an up close look at the replica rocket, use of the Virtual Reality headsets, and access to the activities/careers tent. Tours run between 10am – 4pm with a max capacity of 60 people per group (please speak to us if you need to organise for a larger group). To book a group tour email hello@ha-lo.co with a preferred date/time and I will get back to them regarding availability.

Together we can inspire the next generation of space professionals, and help unlock the potential of young people from across all backgrounds and regions of the UK. Remember to use the hashtag #SpaceForEveryone in your posts to help us create a buzz and gather momentum for the tour. The UK Space Agency’s ‘Space for Everyone’ rocket tour has begun, and the next stop is in Bradford, at the Centenary Square, 6th July – 10th July. The event is open to anyone and everyone. No tickets required, just turn up.

Thank you for being our cosmic co-pilot on this mission. Find out more about the locations, digital activities, and how you can get involved www.spaceperson.co.uk
