Model railway fans are being invited to climb aboard for another much-loved day out as Narrow Gauge North 2026 pulls into Pudsey next month.
The popular exhibition will be held at Pudsey Civic Hall on Saturday 14 March, running from 10.30am to 4.30pm, and promises a packed programme of layouts, displays and trading stands for enthusiasts and families alike. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice in Headingley.
First staged in 1994 and still running ‘on time’ ever since, the show was founded by Ron Redmond, a dedicated model railway enthusiast who worked as a fundraiser at the hospice. Over more than 30 years, the exhibition has raised thousands of pounds for the charity, supporting palliative care and bereavement services across the region.
This year’s event is once again being organised by 21-year-old Oliver Kirkby, continuing a family tradition by following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He explained what makes the day so special:
“We have a variety of exhibitors – those who have built their own model railways including the track, the buildings and the scenery down to the finest details.
“There’s nothing stopping you, as a visitor, from walking in knowing nothing about model railways and leaving with everything you need to build a layout at home. Everything is here, baseboards, tracks, the trains themselves, scenery items, kits to build. All sorts of things!”
Organisers say visitors can expect a friendly atmosphere and plenty to see throughout the day, whether they are long-time hobbyists or simply looking for an enjoyable family outing. The exhibition is open to everybody and offers something for all ages.
Oliver Kirkby added: “As well as rail enthusiasts, we see quite a lot of families turning up – grandparents bringing their grand-kids for a day out to see the trains. We get a whole range of ages coming through the doors, which is great to see.”
Reflecting on his involvement with Narrow Gauge North 2026, Oliver said:
“My love for model railways comes from my family. My dad and my grandad used to take me to railways and exhibitions when I was younger and my passion has continued.
“I’m proud that NGN can continue supporting Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice by raising vital funds that will make a difference to people when they really need it.”
Clare Humphreys, Community Fundraiser at Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice said:
“We are absolutely delighted that Narrow Gauge North 2026 will once again be raising funds for Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice. Their continued dedication and all the money raised over the years helps us to be there when it matters with our endoflife care and bereavement support.”
Narrow Gauge North 2026 takes place at Pudsey Civic Hall on Saturday 14 March, 10.30am–4.30pm, with proceeds going to Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice in Headingley.
