Experience a Winter Wonderland: Ice Cube Brings Festive Magic Back to Leeds City Centre This Christmas

Prepare for a captivating winter adventure as the cherished Ice Cube at Christmas makes its return, bringing festive joy to Millennium Square, Victoria Gardens, and Cookridge Street starting November 22.

Ideal for celebrating the holiday season, this event offers an array of attractions suitable for all ages, including the popular outdoor ice rink, delightful Christmas market stalls, and various seasonal activities. The event will be open daily with varying hours: from 12pm to 9:30pm from Monday to Thursday (extending to 10pm on Fridays), from 11am to 10pm on Saturdays, and from 11am to 7pm on Sundays. Note that it will be closed on Christmas and Boxing Day, continuing through to New Year’s Eve.

The highlight of the holiday celebrations is the stunning 400sqm outdoor ice rink at Millennium Square, covered by a transparent marquee to ensure that the skating fun continues no matter the weather. The Penguin Club is back to offer young skaters under nine years old a delightful and safe introduction to ice skating, complete with charming penguin skate aids. The club meets every weekend at 10:30am, with extra sessions during the half-term.

For those looking to improve their skills, one-to-one skating lessons are available on weekends. The rink is inclusive, welcoming wheelchair users and others with disabilities to all sessions, with special accessible skating times set aside every Thursday at 10:30am. Off the ice, the festive mood continues with a variety of delicious treats available. Visitors can enjoy Bavarian-style market stalls featuring traditional German bratwurst, Yorkshire pudding wraps, Canadian poutine, festive Philly cheesesteak, and sweet treats like churros, waffles, hot crumble with custard, and toasted marshmallows.

For a cozy break, the alpine-inspired Ski Bar returns, complete with its four-meter-high illuminated Ski Bear, offering the perfect place to relax with a drink and enjoy the holiday spirit with family and friends. Families and adventure enthusiasts will delight in the festive entertainment options returning this season. The 30m-high Starflyer will soar above Millennium Square, while the classic Golden Gallopers carousel will enchant visitors on Cookridge Street.

Additionally, the impressive 110ft Leeds Wheel of Light will illuminate Victoria Gardens, accompanied by a selection of children’s rides and winter-themed games, ensuring a fun-filled holiday experience for all.

Roger Tuby of International Funfairs, who along with Stewart Robinson will be bringing a selection of rides and attractions for the event said:

“We are excited to be working in close partnership with Leeds City Council once again to bring a magical winter wonderland feel to the city. With the return of the popular themed Ski bar and a fantastic selection of food, drink, and rides, there’s truly something for everyone to enjoy this holiday season.”

Ice Cube at Christmas will enhance the festive season in tandem with the newly revamped Leeds Christmas Market, set to occupy City Square from Friday, November 22, to Sunday, December 22. For more details, visit the Visit Leeds and follow the hashtag #LeedsChristmas.
