Forward Leeds provides support for adults, young people and families needing help with alcohol and drug use in Leeds.
Forward Leeds supports adults and young people to make healthy choices about alcohol and drugs. We reduce risk-taking behaviours through dedicated prevention, early intervention and tailored programmes. Our ultimate goal is to support people to achieve and sustain recovery. Forward Leeds is a partnership, led by Humankind Charity (Humankind) in conjunction with Barca Leeds, St Anne’s Community Services, Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT).
The Leeds recovery community will join with other runners at the first-ever Park Run in the city for people in recovery from issues with alcohol and drugs. The event, which will take place at 9am on Saturday 30th September, has been chosen as a Recovery Park Run by the organisers as September is International Recovery Month.
Mike Waters who works at 5 WAYS, the Leeds hub for people in recovery said:
“We are excited to be a part of the first-ever Park Run in Leeds for people in recovery. We know that exercise and being active can play a crucial role in the recovery process, and we wanted to be part of an event that would promote healthy lifestyles and bring the community together. We are very grateful to the event organisers for making this run about recovery.”
Event Director at Woodhouse Moor Anne Akers said:
“We will be delighted to have members of the Leeds recovery community join our run and be part of the volunteer team in Recovery Month. All local events are run by volunteers with runners, joggers and walkers from all sections of the community. It’s amazing what a cross-section of people we have volunteering and running with us. We welcome everyone!”
One of the other organisations taking part is Recovery Runners, a Leeds Dock-based running community who meet every Sunday morning. One of the founders of Recovery Runners Dean Smith said:
“This Park Run is a great opportunity to bring lots of people in recovery in Leeds together, doing something we all love – running. Our members are really looking forward to taking part in this run and creating new connections with others who enjoy running as much as we do. Everyone’s recovering from something aren’t they, so everyone’s welcome at our Recovery Runners.”
The Recovery Park Run on Woodhouse Moor is open to individuals of all ages and fitness levels. Participants will have the opportunity to run, jog, or walk, and will be encouraged to go at their own pace. The event is an opportunity for individuals in recovery and their families to come together, socialise, and support one another.
The park run is free and open to all. For more information about the Woodhouse Moor Park Run, please visit www.parkrun.org.uk/woodhousemoor
