New state-of-the-art gym opens its doors at Middleton Leisure Centre

A new state-of-the-art gym at a popular south Leeds leisure centre has officially opened this month.

Equipment on offer at the new gym in Middleton Leisure Centre includes 70 exercise stations, a dedicated free weights area and new personal fitness programmes which includes the offer of a free body composition analysis to users. In addition to the new gym, the current exercise studio at the centre has also been transformed with new décor and improved acoustics and a brand new reception constructed.

Working closely with governing bodies, Active Leeds is continuing to take every step possible to ensure that all facilities on offer are as safe as possible for users as the city tackles coronavirus. With that in mind, both social distancing and extra cleaning and sanitisation measures are currently in place at Middleton Leisure Centre and all Leeds City Council leisure centres.

The introduction of the new gym will help expand the existing offering at Middleton Leisure Centre, and in doing so provide even more choice for users to stay fit and healthy. The site currently offers a 3G football pitch, squash courts, sports hall, fitness studio and a soft play space for children under 8.

Leader of Leeds City Council, Councillor Judith Blake said:

“I’m delighted that the new gym has now officially opened at Middleton Leisure Centre. During what continue to be testing times, the opening of this top class facility which boasts a range of state-of-the-art equipment, demonstrates our commitment to helping the people of Leeds live healthy lives.

“Since lockdown we have seen a real focus on physical activity from people of all ages and good health can play an important part in helping the body fight the effects of the virus. I would encourage anyone who is interested in continuing to exercise or would like to start, to take a look at the top-class facilities that we have on offer at Middleton and all of our leisure centres.”
