Following the announcement that the Victoria Gate development incorporating John Lewis will open on Thursday 20 October, the leader of Leeds City Council, Councillor Judith Blake, said:
“The opening of Victoria Gate and John Lewis represents another ground breaking moment in the development of our city centre.
“It brings hundreds of jobs and training opportunities to the city for people who live here and confirms Leeds as one of the most attractive retail destinations in the country.
“The opening comes at the optimum time for shoppers and retailers in the pre-Christmas period, attracting people from across the country into the city.
“It will add to the already superb mix of shops and traders in the area who, with the variety and vibrancy they represent together, make Leeds a truly unrivalled retail experience.”
Victoria Gate, formerly known as Eastgate Quarters and the Harewood and Eastgate Quarters, is a £165 million retail development in Leeds, which opened on 20 October 2016.
Victoria Gate is flanked by the inner ring road, a major arterial route surrounding Leeds city centre. It is adjacent to the established Victoria Quarter, which together make Victoria Leeds and the Leeds City bus station. The location is also on the main access route from Leeds to the motorway network.
Victoria Gate is located between the civic quarter, the West Yorkshire Playhouse and the existing retail quarter.
