Easter is a holiday and festival when people celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion. For those who celebrate the Holy Week, Easter is a day that symbolizes the renewal of the hope that we nurture in our daily lives.
The meaning of Easter is Jesus Christ’s victory over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. The meaning of Easter also symbolizes the complete verification of all that Jesus preached and taught during His three-year ministry. If He had not risen from the dead, if He had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another teacher or Rabbi. However, His resurrection changed all that and gave final and irrefutable proof that He was really the Son of God and that He had conquered death once and for all.
Easter means that love is stronger than death. Love “burns like a blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away.” It was for love that God gave His only Son; it was for love that Christ died on the cross. It is for love that the risen Lord intercedes for His children. Easter is fraught with love.
People celebrate Easter according to their religious denominations and beliefs. On Easter Sunday, many children wake to find that the Easter Bunny has left them a basket of goodies, and that he has hidden eggs decorated earlier in the week. Children hunt for the decorated Easter eggs around their home, and many organizations hold Easter egg hunts for children in the neighborhood. The Easter Bunny, or “Easter Hare”, is a symbol of fertility, as rabbits have often multiple births. Roman beliefs state that all life comes from eggs. In Christian societies, eggs are considered to be a seed of life and are symbolic to Jesus Christ’s resurrection.
Jesus’ followers rejoiced at Easter and developed deep faith. It wasn’t just that Easter showed them a really amazing miracle. No, the joy of Easter is even deeper than that. Easter shows us that perfect love always wins. In the end, whatever powerful people might try to do to silence love, God’s way is always stronger. Easter shows us that our mortal bodies die, but life for us continues. Easter shows us that we need not fear death. Death no longer has dominion over us.
Easter means that our greatest enemy, death, has been conquered. Easter means that our sins are forgiven and we are made right with God. Easter means that Christ is truly the King and Victor, seated “far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked” (Ephesians 1:21). The meaning of Easter is that Jesus is the Lord of new beginnings, new days, and new lives. Easter means there is hope for us, after all. As Jesus said, “Because I live, you also will live.”
This holiday celebrates a complete reorientation of the universe. Love defeats hate. Hope defeats fear. Sacrifice defeats greed. Mercy defeats might. Life defeats death. If you celebrate Easter, you are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But you are also celebrating God’s great love for us, a love strong enough to defeat death itself.
Easter will arrive this year, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, with many of us quarantined to our homes. The hope we have in our risen Savior, Jesus Christ doesn’t falter or fade in the midst of the pandemic. Easter is a special occasion, which you are supposed to celebrate with your family. Spread the joy and warmth in your hearts to everyone this Easter.
Hope this Easter brings promotion and success in your life. We wish you a happy Easter, filled with happiness, peace and love.
