Northern offers £2 fares to celebrate 20 years of Light Night Leeds

Light Night Leeds returns for its 20th year on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 October, transforming the city into a dazzling open-air gallery filled with light, colour and creativity.

Light Night Leeds 2025 will illuminate the city on October 22 and 23, running from 6pm to 10pm each evening. This year’s theme, ‘Landmarks’, invites audiences to celebrate Leeds’ historic civic buildings, striking modern architecture, and much-loved public spaces, while also reflecting on their own personal landmarks – the places that hold special meaning and memories.

Among the highlights is a striking projection on The Queen’s Hotel, marking 200 years of the modern railway — a fitting tribute for visitors arriving by train. The festival is organised and supported by Leeds City Council, with funding from Arts Council England and sponsorship from businesses across the city.

To help more people experience the magic, train operator Northern is offering £2 single advance tickets for travel to Leeds from a wide range of stations across its network. It’s an invitation for everyone across the North to travel sustainably and enjoy one of the UK’s most celebrated light festivals.

The special £2 fare applies to journeys from a wide range of towns and cities across the North, including Halifax, Bradford, Skipton, Harrogate, Dewsbury, Wakefield, York, Doncaster, and many more.

Alex Hornby, commercial and customer director for Northern said:

“Light Night is one of the highlights of the year for Leeds, with the festival brightening up our autumn evenings for an incredible twenty years now. With trains running late into the evening, we’re urging people to leave the car at home and enjoy an affordable, sustainable journey to the festival – it’s the perfect opportunity to make a night of it.”

Northern is the second-largest train operator in the UK, running nearly 2,650 services every day and connecting passengers to more than 500 stations across the North of England. Each year, over 100 million passenger journeys are made on Northern’s network, supported by a team of more than 7,000 employees working across the region.

Our vision is to make a positive impact for the North — in everything we do and for everyone we serve. Our purpose is simple: to help customers get to where they need to be safely, affordably, and on time.

To make the most of the £2 fare offer, tickets must be purchased up to three days in advance via Northern’s website or mobile app. A full list of eligible destinations where £2 tickets are available can also be found on Northern’s website www.northernrailway.co.uk
