McDonald’s is pleased that Leeds City Council has granted planning permission for a new drive-thru restaurant on Town Street, Stanningley.
This multi-million-pound investment will regenerate an underused site, bringing it back into active use and creating around 85 new local jobs, with market-leading training and career progression opportunities. The restaurant will be operated by a local franchisee, helping to ensure strong links with the community it serves. The development will also generate approximately £48,000 per year in business rates for Leeds City Council, supporting vital local services and infrastructure.
McDonald’s has put community engagement at the centre of its plans, holding a public consultation and a well-attended exhibition at St. Thomas’ Church Hall. Feedback from residents and local businesses has played a key role in shaping the proposals, helping to ensure the development reflects local priorities and aspirations.
Annie Newman, Senior Acquisitions Surveyor at McDonald’s said:
“We’re excited to gain approval for a new McDonald’s restaurant in Stanningley. This development will deliver around 85 new, local jobs and provide a multi-million-pound investment into the local economy at a time of economic uncertainty.
“The site is ideally placed to serve residents and visitors in Stanningley, and we’re confident that the community will recognise the value of greater choice and the benefits of having a reliable and convenient restaurant from a recognised brand serving food at reasonable prices.”
The development includes £130,000 of investment in road and footway improvements, along with £165,000 for an upgraded junction and a new controlled pedestrian crossing. McDonald’s will now work with officers at Leeds City Council to meet the range of conditions attached to the approval.
With new jobs, investment in local infrastructure and improved facilities for residents, the new McDonald’s drive-thru is set to become a valuable addition to the Stanningley area — delivering long-term benefits for the community and contributing to ongoing regeneration efforts.
