Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire has donated £250 to help young musicians across Leeds continue playing brass instruments.
The housebuilder has supported Garforth Brass, which is based at Garforth Methodist Church near its Morwick Springs development on Leeds Road. Founded more than 20 years ago, Garforth Brass has entertained audiences at concerts and events across the region. The band is proud of its commitment to nurturing talent, giving players the chance to compete in regional and national contests through its contesting band.
Janet Lymath, Treasurer at Garforth Brass said:
“We’re absolutely delighted to receive this donation from Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire. At Garforth Brass, we predominantly rely on donations from our supporters to ensure that our players can continue to perform and compete. With running costs higher than ever, we are extremely grateful to Taylor Wimpey for their support.”
The donation highlights the housebuilder’s commitment to supporting the communities where it builds, helping to enrich local lives beyond its developments.
Sam Evans, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire said:
“We’re committed to giving back to the communities in which we build and we were pleased to be able to offer this donation to Garforth Brass. We hope our donation goes some way to helping the group continue to bring people together through music.”
Based at Garforth Methodist Church, the group is made up of a number of ensembles, giving musicians the chance to play in both contesting and non-contesting settings depending on their experience and preference. The organisation prides itself on nurturing talent, with a strong focus on mentoring and progression for players of all ages.
Alongside regular performances, Garforth Brass offers training and tuition to help musicians develop their skills and confidence, ensuring there is a welcoming route into brass music for newcomers as well as opportunities for more experienced players to keep improving. The group’s contesting band represents Garforth on the competition stage, taking part in local and national events and building a reputation for strong performances. Recent highlights include success at the Stanley Entertainment Contest.
With its mix of performance, competition and training, Garforth Brass continues to play a key role in supporting brass music in the local community — inspiring the next generation while keeping the tradition thriving in East Leeds www.garforthbrass.co.uk
