Spring has blossomed at Temple Newsam’s Home Farm, heralding the arrival of charming new additions, with more eagerly anticipated.
Ensure you don’t miss the opportunity to witness the playful piglets, lambs, and kids during the Easter season. Temple Newsam’s farm stands as one of Europe’s largest rare breed centers, boasting a diverse population of over 400 sheep, pigs, poultry, and goats. It plays a vital role in preserving some of the nation’s oldest farm animal breeds.
With its picturesque historic cobbled yards and outbuildings, the farm now features a new permanent trail. Here, visitors can encounter the characters who once worked at this esteemed historic farm, all while enjoying the delightful company of its animal residents.
Offering a glimpse into the bygone working life of the farm centuries ago, the interactive trail commences with a brief film, providing an intriguing peek into the histories of the estate’s laborers. Visitors are introduced to characters like Sarah, a dairymaid from the late 19th Century. Within the old dairy, guests can immerse themselves in her tale of singing to cows to ensure the finest milk and hand-churning butter.
In the harness room, guests encounter James, the stable hand, and have the opportunity to try their hand at fitting a bridle onto a horse’s head. If fortunate, visitors may also encounter the endearing duo of fluffy donkeys, Blue and Maria. The trail unfolds with numerous other captivating characters waiting to be discovered, alongside the myriad animals inhabiting the farm.
The Children’s Mayor of Leeds, Mohammed Hussein, tested out the trail and said:
“I had a lot of fun and learnt loads. I’m definitely coming back and bringing my brothers!”
The Temple Newsam estate offers an array of exciting events to anticipate during the Easter season.
