Middleton Park Lodge Nursing Home marked World Kindness Day with a heartwarming initiative, setting out to spread positivity and kindness throughout their local community.
The dedicated staff organized numerous activities and gestures of goodwill to brighten the day of both residents and neighbors alike. Middleton Park Lodge, a member of the Orchard Care Homes group which manages 23 facilities across the Midlands and North of England, celebrated World Kindness Day with enthusiasm and a commitment to community goodwill. Originating in 1998, World Kindness Day was created by the World Kindness Movement to emphasize the importance of good deeds and the universal value of kindness.
The staff at Middleton Park Lodge showcased their dedication to spreading warmth and compassion throughout the town of Middleton, a reflection of both the home’s and the group’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the lives of their residents. They focus on creating personalized and meaningful experiences tailored to meet the unique needs and preferences of each resident. This event was yet another example of their dedication to fostering a caring and supportive environment.
Residents of the home spent the morning of World Kindness Day crafting over 30 A5 notes and 20 A4 posters filled with positive and uplifting handwritten messages such as ‘You are Loved’, ‘Love Yourself’, and ‘Smile Often’. Their first destination was St. Cross Church, where they set up a display. This display now stands as a beacon of positivity for all who visit the church.
Their next visit was to Middleton Elderly Aid, a local non-profit charity that hosts social clubs for the elderly in the community. Here, they were received with open arms, spreading further kindness and joy. One person working there said:
“What a wonderful idea and an even stronger message to spread to everyone. We could all do with a little more kindness.”
The third destination was Laurel Bank, a complex needs center dedicated to providing advice and support for individuals living with dementia and their families within the local community. Upon arrival, they were warmly welcomed. A representative from Laurel Bank expressed their appreciation and commented on the visit:
“What a lovely idea this is! We’re going to take some inspiration from Middleton Park Lodge and keep the spirit of kindness going.”
On their journey to their final destination, Gascoigne House Cafe, the residents distributed positive notes to passersby, wishing them a wonderful day. One individual, who was out walking their dog, responded:
“How lovely it was to receive such a sweet note.”
Residents of Middleton Park who took part also found it a rewarding experience. Dorothy Perry, 90 said: “We need to be kind to ourselves before we can truly be kind to others.”
Geraldine Smith, 77 added: “It’s so important to be kind to each other and inspire others to do the same, I’m glad we could inspire people to do the same today.”
And Colin Leach, 76 said: “We had a brilliant time in the sunshine spreading positivity.”
