Good luck message to Leeds Rhinos ahead of Challenge Cup final on Saturday

0

For the first time since their Treble winning season, Leeds Rhinos are back at Wembley in the Coral Challenge Cup Final, taking on Salford Red Devils, who haven’t reached the final stage since 1969. The game is live on BBC One, kick off 3pm.

Leeds and Salford have faced off eleven times before in the Challenge Cup but this will be the first time either side has met in the Final. Nobody could have imagined at that point the impact that coronavirus would have. Lockdown, withdrawals and redraws have helped define this season’s cup story. But in a unique year, Salford and Leeds will provide a first for the 124-year-old tournament – it will be the first final to be played in an empty stadium.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Eileen Taylor, and Leader of Leeds City Council, Councillor Judith Blake, have passed on their best wishes to the Leeds Rhinos, ahead of their Challenge Cup final match against Salford Red Devils at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Eileen Taylor said:

“On behalf of the city, I would like to wish the Leeds Rhinos the very best of luck on Saturday in the Challenge Cup final.

“The Rhinos have shown great determination, fight and skill on the road to Wembley, and we will be crossing our fingers that once again they can bring the Challenge Cup back to Leeds.”

Leader of Leeds City Council, Councillor Judith Blake said:

“It is of course very disappointing for the Leeds Rhinos and especially their fantastic supporters that the Challenge Cup final will have to be played behind closed doors at Wembley.

“The Rhinos can be assured however that everyone in the city will be cheering them on loudly to what we hope will be another famous victory on Saturday.”

It’d be great for the city of the Rhinos can beat Salford Red Devils at Wembley Stadium and win the cup. We would like to wish the Leeds Rhinos the very best of luck on Saturday in the Challenge Cup final.
