New East Leeds Secondary School Set to Open in September 2021
A proposed new free school to be known as Trinity Academy Leeds is planned to open in September 2021.
Having been identified as an area of need for additional secondary school places, East Leeds will see the opening of a brand new secondary school, Trinity Academy Leeds in 2021. Due to the increased population in Leeds, particularly in young people of school age, there is a shortage of secondary school places which will last for the foreseeable future. Leeds City Council have acted swiftly to ensure that a brand new school will be ready to open its doors to the young people of Leeds in September 2021, and have chosen Trinity Multi Academy Trust as their preferred sponsor.
Trinity Academy Leeds will add to the existing provision in the area whilst offering young people and their parents a first class, exciting alternative option for their education. Trinity MAT is proud to have transformed the life chances of thousands of pupils across its six existing academies, and we are equipped and eager to do the same for those in Leeds.
Following a decision by Leeds City Council earlier this year, the school will be set up by and be part of the thriving Halifax-based Trinity Multi-Academy Trust, bringing a fresh approach to secondary education in the East Leeds area. With the 31st October deadline for parental decisions on secondary school places being not too far ahead, the trust wants to share its vision with the families of children starting Year 7 from September 2021. The school will have a strong focus on Maths, Literacy and the Arts.
It is hoped that roadshow style information events can be held in the local area to give parents and children transitioning from primary schools an insight into what they can expect from Trinity Academy Leeds, which will offer 240 student places for Year 7.
Trinity Multi-Academy Trust has an excellent track record in transforming student outcomes and creating aspiration within its school communities. The lead trust school Trinity Academy Halifax is rated Ofsted outstanding, and Cathedral Academy in Wakefield was awarded TES Secondary School of the Year 2019. Construction work will soon commence on the new school building in Burmantofts, which will be ideally located just off the Torre Road providing an alternative choice for secondary education in this part of the city.
Trinity Multi-Academy Trust CEO Michael Gosling said of the development:
“As a trust we are incredibly excited to be opening a new school in East Leeds. We’re committed to raising the bar for local education. Trinity Academy Leeds will be a school for all, delivering exceptional levels of progress and attainment for every student.
We are confident that Trinity Academy Leeds will be the school of choice for the growing local community, a school that parents are confident to send their children to, and a school that their children are proud to belong to.”
Principal Designate for Trinity Academy Leeds, Kat Cafferky added:
“Drawing on my experience from the outstanding provision and success of Cathedral Academy’s focus on the Arts, I know that this extra dimension combined with excellent education, pastoral care and our approach to the holistic development of each young person, will make a huge difference to student outcomes whatever their starting point.”
A consultation process is ongoing where views are being sought from the local community. You can find more information and support at www.leeds.trinitymat.org
