Staff at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire have raised more than £13,000 during 2025 for a Leeds-based homelessness charity, helping to fund vital support for people rebuilding their lives.
The company selected St George’s Crypt, on Great George Street, as its charity of the year for 2025. The donation will support the organisation’s Pathway service, which works to break the cycle of homelessness and dependency by helping people access stability, support and longer-term opportunities.
Colleagues based at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire’s Wakefield headquarters led the fundraising drive, planning activities across the year and encouraging wide participation. Events included the Leeds Big Sleep, with seven members of staff taking part, alongside a Tour de France-inspired cyclathon that kept the team pedalling for days.
Lisa Waugh, Managing Director at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire said:
“We are really proud of everyone at our regional office for the work and dedication they have shown in raising money. It is clear that the staff here are passionate about supporting St George’s Crypt.
“I am told that when they dropped off the wash bags as part of the Taylor Wimpey winter campaign 2024, they got to meet some of the charity’s team, who are amazing people. Everyone was really blown away by how much they do, as they don’t just provide food and a bed for the night, they provide access to GPs, physiotherapy, dentists, they have a drug and alcohol abstinence program, and are creating residential centres.
“Our team members knew straight away that they wanted to make St George’s Crypt their charity for 2025.”
During the week-long challenge, staff cycled the 475 miles from the head office to the Eiffel Tower on a static bike, clocking up the distance in shifts. Additional fundraising came from workplace initiatives such as bake sales, tuck shops and themed food days, where staff donated money to enjoy a variety of treats. Around £9,000 of the total was also raised through sponsorship from subcontractors.
Richard Leavis, Corporate Fundraiser at St George’s Crypt, which helps more than 1,500 people every year said:
“We are very grateful for everyone’s support at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, who have gone above and beyond to support our work and help us continue to offer care, compassion and hope to the homeless, vulnerable and those suffering from addiction.”
Support extended beyond fundraising. Staff coordinated clothing donations throughout the year, creating a dedicated collection point at the head office. At Christmas, they donated chocolate oranges and selection boxes, which were handed out on Christmas Day. Larger household items — including wall heaters, ovens, fridges and washing machines, were also given to help equip the charity’s residential units.
It is not the first time the regional business has backed St George’s Crypt. In 2024, the charity benefited from a washbag initiative led by CRASH, a national organisation supporting people experiencing homelessness, with Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire donating 192 washbags.
The fundraising total marks another significant boost for St George’s Crypt’s ongoing work in Leeds, supporting services designed to help individuals move forward and build more secure futures www.stgeorgescrypt.org.uk
