Just One Day is an annual one day event where local communities, businesses and organisations are encouraged to come together and raise awareness and support fundraising for the Lord Mayor’s charity.
Each year the Lord Mayor nominates a charity close to their heart. This year’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Graham Latty, has chosen St Gemma’s Hospice as his charity.
St Gemma’s Hospice has worked with the community of Leeds for 40 years, to ensure that when local people face the end of life, it can be pain-free, dignified and peaceful. St Gemma’s provides care to patients living with all kinds of incurable illnesses including cancer, heart disease, lung disease and neurological diseases.
On Friday 17 May, do something for Just One Day with friends, family or colleagues. Help raise vital money so that we can provide the best possible care and support for thousands of people in Leeds living with life-limiting illnesses. It would be wonderful to get as many people and organisations as possible involved in this fundraising initiative so please do get in touch and let us know what your ideas and plans are.
It is appreciated that a set date for organising a fundraising event may not always be convenient for everyone, or the best approach for their business or community, so it has been agreed to incorporate a ‘What’s Your Day” option whereby people can support the campaign in their own way and at a time more convenient to them. This might include a special visit by the Lord Mayor to your business, group, organisation or school on your designated day to say a big “Thank You!”.
The following list gives an idea of the type of events that were held this year and you may wish to consider these for the next ‘What’s Your Day’:
- Cake sale
- Quiz night
- Dress down day
- Sponsored walk
- Fitness Challenge
- Head shave
Organise your own Just One Day fundraising event. Register for your fantastic fundraising pack full of materials, including posters, balloons, a selfie frame and much more.
Why not get involved at home, at work or at school by:
- holding a dress down or fancy dress day
- hosting a coffee morning or bake sale
- holding a quiz night or prosecco and pamper night
- organizing a Just One Day sponsored run
Each Lord Mayor chooses a Leeds based charity, close to their heart, to champion during their year of office. Throughout the year, the Lord Mayor focuses on the work of their chosen charity, with the aim of bringing the whole city together to raise awareness and funds through hosting a range of events and activities.
