Former England Cricketer Darren Gough Swings into Action at Charity Golf Event

Former Yorkshire County Cricket Club captain and BBC Strictly Come Dancing winner Darren Gough hosted 60 guests for 18 holes of golf at Headingley Golf Club in Leeds during Vertu Motors’ annual charity event.

The gathering, which included customers and associates of Vertu, aimed to support the Leeds-based national charity Day One Trauma Support. The charity, founded by Leeds trauma and orthopaedic surgeon Prof Peter Giannoudis, initially aided patients and families at Leeds General Infirmary. It has since expanded its reach to provide emotional, practical, and financial support to individuals across the UK who have suffered catastrophic injuries from incidents like car accidents, falls, stabbings, and sports-related accidents. An auction conducted by Darren and donations made on the day collectively raised over £2,500 for the charity.

At the event held on Friday, June 7, auction items featured an England cricket helmet signed by Joe Root and a framed picture autographed by current England Test team captain Ben Stokes. These items were generously donated by Darren Gough, who serves as an ambassador for Vertu Motors.Joe Root Helmet

Kirsty Christmas, fundraising manager for Day One Trauma Support said:

“We are so grateful to Vertu Jaguar Land Rover Leeds for their loyal support. A huge thank to the Vertu team, Darren and all the golfers who took part in this wonderful event to support Day One. We don’t get any NHS or Government funding, so rely on the generosity of our supporters to ensure we can help anyone affected by catastrophic injury. Money from this event will make a big difference to help people in Leeds and across Yorkshire, ensuring they’re not left to cope on their own when their lives have suddenly been changed.”

Paul Bamford, Divisional Fleet Director for Vertu Jaguar Land Rover Leeds said:

“We’re delighted to continue our support for Day One Trauma Support as we can see the direct impact the charity has on people who have suffered life-changing injuries. We all hope we will never need them, but it’s wonderful to know this charity exists and we’re proud to help raise awareness of this wonderful cause. At Vertu Jaguar Land Rover we’re passionate about ensuring our clients always have the best experience, some have been with us many years and this golf day is our way of saying thank you for their loyalty, and joining together to make a difference in our local communities.”

Day One Trauma Support works in conjunction with NHS clinical care to offer practical and emotional support to patients and their families from the initial incident and for as long as needed. The charity’s comprehensive services include benefits advice, emergency funding, access to legal advice, and personalized support from our team of volunteers who have firsthand experience with trauma. Thanks to partnerships with NHS Trusts, Day One provides a bedside service within Major Trauma Centres and a national service to assist individuals wherever and whenever required.
