The annual ‘Just One Day’ event, part of the Lord Mayor of Leeds Charity Appeal, is set to make a return on Friday, May 17, urging the entire city to participate.
In its seventh year, ‘Just One Day’ raises funds by encouraging individuals to dedicate a day or any amount of time they can spare to engage in enjoyable activities, all in support of the Lord Mayor’s chosen charity. This year, the charity selected by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Al Garthwaite, is the Women’s Counselling and Therapy Service.
Established in 1982, the Women’s Counselling & Therapy Service (WCTS) provides free therapy and support for women and girls residing in Leeds. Their mission is to enhance awareness of women’s mental health while working towards reducing stigma and influencing national strategies to enhance the lives of women, both locally and nationally. In the past year alone, WCTS has offered personalized assistance to over 550 women, with demand for their services showing continual growth.
Individuals and organizations, regardless of size, are encouraged to join in and generate essential funds for this meaningful cause. There are no restrictions on how individuals can raise money, and events need not be confined to May 17; they can be organized at any time throughout the year.
Whether it’s donning fancy dress at work or school, arranging a sponsored activity, or hosting a bake-off, all ideas and contributions are warmly welcomed. The emphasis is on creating enjoyment, so the more creative and entertaining, the better. Be sure to share your fundraising endeavors and stories on social media by tagging @LordMayorLeeds on 𝕏 or using the hashtag #JustOneDay2024.
The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Al Garthwaite said:
” ‘Just One Day’ is my favourite event of the year and a great opportunity for everyone to come together, get creative with fundraising ideas and have some fun, whilst also raising money for a fantastic cause.
“Every penny raised will allow the Women’s Counselling and Therapy Service to continue their vital work, supporting low-income Leeds women and girls through tough times with their mental health to find a better and happier future.
“Whether you decide to organise an event or donate, please spread the word about the important work of this incredible charity. I can’t thank you enough for your support.”
